Home Library and Accessible Service staff discussing book selection with a patron in their home
We want the library to be available to everyone, including those who may be unable to visit the library on their own. Home Delivery Service can bring the library to you.

You can receive home delivery from us if you are a Burnaby resident and are:

  • A person who has mobility limitations and is unable to easily travel, or
  • A senior who cannot safely navigate around the city due to hazards or lack of transportation, or
  • A person whose health prevents you from visiting the library for three months or more, or
  • A person with a perceptual disability

Mobility limitations and perceptual disabilities come in many forms. Call us to discuss your library needs.

Register using our online form or call us at 604-436-5423.

We encourage caregivers to contact us and set up service on behalf of an individual who qualifies.

We deliver any library material you would get at the library in person. This could include the latest bestseller, a film documentary, an issue of Canadian Living, or the third book of an audiobook series. We can bring up to 30 items at a time.

When you sign up for Home Library Service, we create a reading profile for you. We’ll ask questions to help pin down your reading taste. Do you like romances? Do you have favourite authors? What don’t you like reading about? Is there a TV series you want to watch? How many items do you want next visit? We encourage our members to let us know what they liked or disliked from the last delivery. All feedback helps us choose the next set of material we deliver to you. Don’t worry, we don’t judge your reading tastes!

A visit will last between five and ten minutes. We’ll bring you a new set of material and take back the last set, and record the books on our computer.

We get to know our patrons and we like to hear how you are! Let us know how you’re doing and if you liked your last set of books.

If your pets are friendly, we like to see them too!

Our staff know that you may have unique needs, so let us know if you need us to try to make accommodations. Do you have a hard time getting to the door speedily? Are you not able to reach down to hand us your books? Let us know and we’ll adjust our interactions accordingly.

We treat all our patrons with dignity, respect, and friendliness. We are a caring and understanding service. We aim to make use of library materials as stress free as possible.

All of our patrons can ask for audiobooks, but there is a collection of accessible audiobooks and equipment reserved for people who have difficulty using traditional printed media. This gives access to a huge variety of materials, as well as access to the entire Burnaby Public Library collection.

Our staff comes to your home once every four weeks, around the same time of day. When you become a member, we’ll let you know when we’re in your area, and from then on we come once every four weeks. We give you a calendar of the rest of the dates for that year so you can plan ahead.

We’ll visit any home in Burnaby. This might mean a house, an apartment, or a unit in an assisted living or group home. We work with care facilities and can usually visit residents in their rooms.
