Introduction to Sewing by Hand
In this session, join Tina Johnston and learn how to mend and refresh your clothing with essential hand sewing skills. We will go through all the stitches you need to mend clothing and sew on patches, buttons and decorations. Needles, thread, fabric and everything you need to start stitching will be provided.
For ages 18 and up.
Tina Johnston grew up in a home full of textile crafts, with a loom and spinning wheel in the living room. She learned how to sew from family, community and the internet. She now applies these skills in historical costuming, making historically-inspired princess costumes, as well as in modern fashion design, making pieces for her own wardrobe.
Professionally, Tina is an environmental scientist and science communicator. She enjoys volunteering with local streamkeeper organizations, working to restore aquatic habitat and connecting the community to the wonders of nature in their backyards.
