Buller Ave. Temporary Winter Shelter

On November 6th, 2023, Mayor and Council approved the addition of a 40-bed temporary winter shelter to assist those in need during the colder months. The shelter is a joint partnership between BC Housing and the City of Burnaby, operated by Progressive Housing Society. The shelter’s operating hours are 5pm-8am, 7 days a week from the same location as the Emergency Warming Centre located at 7320 Buller Avenue. The location will provide sleeping pods for those looking to get out of the cold and connected to various supports. The shelter will operate from December 15th, 2023 to April 30th, 2024.

Youth from outside the Vancouver Coastal Health area are able to stay for 48 hours.

Spirit of the Children Society (SOTC) provides assistance for Indigenous families and individuals in Burnaby, New Westminster, and the Tri-Cities searching for stable housing and helps with goal planning.

SOTC also has a separate program for youth ages 16 to 24 who are episodically and chronically homeless to obtain or sustain housing, with priority given to youth who are aging out of or have aged out of care.
