Due to COVID-19, we are only accepting returns through the book returns located outside each library entrance. Due to a high volume of returns, there may be a delay clearing items from your account.

There are no late fines at Burnaby Public Library.

Fine free Goodbye Late Fines. Hello Library!
Returning to Other Libraries

You can return your library materials to any library in the InterLINK area, except for items borrowed from other libraries (interlibrary loans). Items are checked in when they arrive back at Burnaby Public Library.

It can take up to two weeks for items to get back to our library. There are no late fines, but you may see these items on your account for up to two weeks after you've returned them to an InterLINK library.

Items borrowed with a BC OneCard can be returned to any public library in BC.

Overdue Items

We don't charge late fines, but we do want our items back! You’ll be notified when an item becomes overdue and you can continue to borrow items up to 28 days after the due date.

If you have an item overdue for more than 28 days, your account will be temporarily blocked from borrowing and a replacement fee will be added to your account. Once the overdue item is returned, you can borrow items again, the replacement fee will be removed and no late fines will be charged.

If you have lost an item, you will be asked to pay the replacement fee before you can borrow or renew materials again.

You’ll still be able to use our public computers and digital resources if you have an overdue or lost item on your account.

We understand that unexpected things can happen that might result in library items being lost. Please talk to us and we can let you know your options.

Damaged Items

If an item is returned damaged beyond repair, you will be asked to pay the replacement fee before you can borrow or renew materials again.

You’ll still be able to use our public computers and digital resources if you have a damaged item on your account.
